Childs Road intersection (looking south)
Crews removed trees and moved and graded soil to build Childs Road roundabout, and environmental protections of Pecan Creek.
Johnson Road intersection (looking south)
Crews removed trees and moved and graded soil to realign the Johnson Road intersection, and set up the onsite job trailer for the construction team.
Traffic impacts
Stafford Road will be closed to thru traffic between Johnson Road and Childs Road through September 30, 2025. The closure includes the intersection of Stafford Road and Johnson Road.
Construction expectations - June
Crews will continue earthwork excavation for realignment of Johnson Road, including new stormwater facilities; continue earthwork embankment for Childs Road roundabout, Pecan Creek culvert and retaining walls.
Respect the closure for your safety
Road closures are needed for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers. Entering a road closure area is unsafe and illegal.
Due to the steep terrain on Stafford Road and the unsafe conditions it would create for construction workers, and to shorten the project's time span, Stafford Road is closed to all traffic between Johnson Road and Childs Road. This road closure includes closing the road to bicyclists for safety.

Follow the detour route
There will be one signed detour route for truck and passenger vehicles along I-205, I-5, Boones Ferry Road, County Club Road. See the map below. We understand there may be other unsigned detour routes available depending on the time of day and your destination. Please use caution near the work zone.

May 5 – July 14, 2025: Stafford Road and Johnson Road closed to thru traffic from north of Pattulo Way to south of Childs Road
July 15 – Sept. 30, 2025: Stafford Road and Childs Road closed to thru traffic from north of Johnson Road to south of Rosemont Road
Oct. 1, 2025 – April 31, 2026: Childs Road closed to thru traffic. Stafford Road and Johnson Road open to traffic.
May 1 – Aug. 31, 2026: Stafford Road and Childs Road closed to thru traffic from north of Johnson Road to south of Rosemont Road
Sept. 1 – Sept. 30, 2026: Stafford Road and Johnson Road closed to thru traffic from north of Pattulo Way to south of Childs Road
Oct. 1 – Dec. 31, 2026: All roads open to traffic. Construction under flagging.
Project description: Widen Stafford Road to add bike lanes, realign the intersections at Johnson Road and Childs Road and add a southbound left-turn lane at Johnson Road and a roundabout at Childs Road.
This project will improve safety and traffic operations at the intersections of Stafford Road with Johnson Road and Childs Road and will provide a safe route for bikes along Stafford Road.
Cost: $18 million paid for by the Community Road Fund and transportation system development charges.
